Led Zep at the Toby Jug, April 1969

I was there too. Like Chris Herring, I was 17 - no problem getting into pubs at that age in those days - and went with my mate Peter Graham. Drove there in Dad's old Vauxhall Viva. I remember we didn't think we would get in, because the band was already so well-known, but I don't remember any problems with crowds being kept out. It was a tiny room, about 100-120 people as Chris says. The 'stage' was about 6 inches high at most. I'm sure they did 'Dazed and Confused', 'Communication Breakdown' and 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You', but can't remember as much as I'd like, so would love to hear from anyone else who was there. To think they played 152 gigs that year, would be in San Francisco just 2 or 3 weeks after playing the grotty Toby Jug (they must have been paid less than £10 each to perform there). Saw the Stones in Hyde Park a month later. Great memories - those were the days. Apparently the Toby Jug was knocked down in 2002. Tesco's bought it - what an impoverished world we live in now.
