Bachdenkel a Birmingham band, though not in the program, blagged their way onto this Chatenay Malabray gig.
Bass player Peter Kimberley rolled one up in the dressing room and JPJ asked if he might have a toke... "It's only Clan rolling tobacco" said Pete and JP left in disgust.
Interestingly Bachdenkel had a gig at Birmingham's Elbow Room in 1968... the club's manager asked the band if they would let a bunch of musicians who were standing at the bar "have a play" "not on our gear" was Bachdenkel's reaction. The guys at the bar were Led Zep or more likely the barely hatched New Yardbirds.
Years later I met Robert in a café in Paris, we had a friend in common (Eddie Blower) and he bought me a beer.
Ordered it in near perfect french (used the conditionnel). A true gent.
JPJ now gets to play with my mate Robyn Hitchcock from time to time.
He plays a mean mandolin!
