LZ at Sunderland

I was there!! It WAS at the Locarno Sunderland, commonly known as the Mecca. They played Newcastle City Hall on the Thursday 11th as well.

I was 16 at the time and I was working as an apprentice draughtsman. My dad went into town to get my ticket from Bergs music shop, I could only afford one at the princely sum of 75p lol. However, when I got home that day I was playing with the ticket in my bedroom and rubbing it, and it came apart, there were two!! That meant I could take my girlfriend as well!

However, LZ did cost me my relationship. When they came on stage the whole crowd (over capacity by 500+ people) surged forward, I lost my grip on my girlfriend and never saw her again that night. I called her the next day and she was furious and broke up with me lol.

LZ... girlfriend... LZ... girlfriend... yeah, no brainer... LZ all the way lol.

It was superb performance as well. They kicked off with The Immigrant Song and it just got better from then on.

I also remember someone's voice coming over the speakers before they came on stage saying, "Will the house electrician please come to the back of the stage as there isn't enough power for the amps." The whole place erupted.

I'm 57 now and it is still the best concert I've ever been to <3 LZ.
