Review: Led Zeppelin came on in a tumult of fury, and managed to keep their storm going throughout the entire, very long set. Moving about like some deranged whirling phantom, Robert Plant stormed at his audience in a barrage of vocal and physical assaults, his body writhing with the grinding tones of lead guitarist Jimmy Page’s playing.

Page’s style , with all its fury and passion, was an excellent complement to (previous act) Larry Coyrell’s and provided an excellent study in different approaches to the same instrument. At one point, Page played his guitar with a violin bow, and in addition to being a great gimmick and fabulous showmanship, it created a unique, very exciting sound. (B.H., Cashbox, Sept. ‘69)

Got there early, stood on line outside, got in up close to the stage. Led Zeppelin came on and the crowd pressed in, some jerks in back throwing bottles and cans at those up front. Yeah kids, that's why containers aren't allowed at concerts anymore! So I had to get out of the press and went upstairs where the music was still awesome. Best live rock show ever playing music from the best album ever. Led Zep peaked that year. I was16 years old.

The Pavilion was the same place as the saucer in the film, Men in Black. What a venue! It was the NY State Pavilion from the 1964 World's Fair. The music rocketed around the inside of that saucer until you thought it was going to lift of.

I was 15 and recalling an event that took place 40+ years ago: Hot, humid NYC summer nite; crushing standing only venue with mixed aroma of pot & b.o.; was up in the front and consider this one of if not the best live show I ever saw....Plant wearing a see thru lacy shirt; vocals I didn't think possible; Page making his guitar also do things I didn't think possible; J. P. Jones steady bass; loved "How Many More Times" and his organ play on "Your Time is Gonna Come" still makes my hair stand on end to this day and seeing "Bonzo" up close just makes this concert a memory I will always cherish and pass on when I'm creakin' in my rocker recalling "the good old days"....long live ZEP!!!!!

I was at one of the 2 nights can't remember which. Jeez, it's been almost 40 years. I lived in Bayside, a bus & train ride away so I went to many of the shows here. Mostly without tickets, and either snuck in or stayed outside and listened. All I can remember specifically was that Iron Butterfly played about a month after Led Zep. This was my one and only Led Zep show.

I was also close to the stage and 15 years old at this show. It remains one of the best live shows that I've ever witnessed. I can't remember if I went to the Friday (8/29) or Saturday (8/30) performance. I'm trying to work out the actual date. The night that I attended the concert promoter, Howard Smith cut through the waiting crowd wearing a lavender suit. I'm hoping that someone can help me narrow it down with Smith's entrance?
