An audience tape that has been found from this show includes the first (recorded) chords of a song published over a decade later: Midnight Moonlight, and some other experimental chords within White Summer/ Black Mountainside. Sadly the audience was not at all familiar with Led Zeppelin shows (how could they be as this was their first-and-last show in Finland) and started to demand for Whole Lotta Love immediately after the first applause break. The band was clearly very up-front, unfortunately it also seems that Plant was suffering from some PA problems or Bonham and Page just were on so loud that not much else could be heard at some points of the concert. They played some unusual songs in the Whole Lotta Love meddley and the response was great for this, at the time no. 1 hit. Excellent show, but for the Finnish fans disappointment Zeppelin would not stop by in Helsnki or elsewhere in Finland during their next European tour, or the next one, or even the biggest one in 1973. For late 1975 there was a scedhuled show, but that was cancelled like the whole tour after Robert's accident. He returned to Finland the next time for a blues festival in 1999 which was the first time I saw him live. On Dec. 6th 2007 Jason Bonham was supposed to play with Foreigner on this same stage where his father had given an unforgettable performance 37 years earlier, but he had bigger things to rehearse for in London. BTW this was Foreigner's firsrt ever gig in Finland.

A really rare show, the first concert of the first European tour. And what a show it is! Robert's voice is simply wonderful and the entire band just cooks throughout the whole set. Dazed And Confused is really eerie and played well and the How Many More Times medley has some really obscure and great references thrown in.

Todella hieno sekä ikimuistoinen konsertti!
Olin silloin 15-vuotias, juuri itse aloitellut soittamaan (rumpuja), joten annos tällaista sai nuoren kundin sydämen melkein seisahtamaan! Fiilis oli aivan jotakin sanoinkuvaamatonta!
Oi niitä aikoja.. Those were the day's!

Olinpa siellä minäkin, enkä vieläkään ole toipunut tuosta kokemuksesta:)

I have some nice portrait photos fromm this show, courtesy of a friend who lived in Helsinki at the time, and with who I traded tapes. I have tapes of the Zeppelin shows he saw before 1970-1971, when we lost touch with each other.

Led Zeppelin borrowed a Tamtam-Gong from Finland's RSO(radio symphony orchestra) for Bonzo. Eventually Bonzo(or the roadies) forgot to return it and the people of RSO just managed to get it back before Zeppelin flew away.

Joitakin muistikuvia tuosta keikasta on, vaikka aika on muistin suhteen tehnytkin tehtävänsä.

Zep on edelleen suurin suosikkini.

Hei,
Kysyisin edelliseltä, että onko tuo Ile Kallion äänittämä nauhoitus sama kuin mitä bootleggina kiertää? Siinä Plantin ääni on valitettavan hiljainen, erityisesti se häiritsee Since I've been loving you:ssa.

Percy The Gardner's picture

The Archivist 's picture

"Ilen" alkuperäinen nauhoitus on kuulemma kadonnut vuosikymmeniä sitten. Paikalla oli myös kolmas äänittäjä, ainakin.

Kovin siel ainakin suomee höpötetään ja helvetin kova meno. How Many More Times kestää 25:28 pelkkää mahtavuutta.

Had most wonderdul time tlaking to each band member before the show doing press photography. Some of these are posted on the official site - it seems.

During the show Robert Plant between numbers asked about the laws about the ladies in finland, and i in turn asked about the recording method. I decided then and there to go to London, which I did to Aby Road Studios, to Air Studios to Rolling Stones mobile. I met the band recording them six years later in London live show..
