The 4th of 6 shows at the Forum and perhaps their best. Clocking in at just under 4 hours with no intermission, the energy level is absolutely SICK!

The off-day certainly helped as they open again with SRTS>Sick Again. Sick Again has become a band favorite, starting in 1975 and continuing thru Knebworth as Jimmy's solo at the end has grown a head of its own. Nobody's Fault has Bonzo coming in a bit early and even Plant's singing "Oh Jimmy" can't save this disjointed version. However, In My Time of Dying comes to the rescue complete with blistering slide work on the Danalectro by Jimmy. Plant sings a little diddy about "getting paid on a Sat night" and also throws in a "you shook me" reference for good measure. Over the Hills vs In My Time in the #4 slot, take your pick as you can't go wrong either way. Since I've Been Loving You follows and as usual kicks ass complete with Jonesy doing double-duty (mellotron and bass pedals). Always wondered why I heard some sort of bass on live versions. John Paul keeps the spotlight for the next number, No Quarter. Smoke machine, dry ice and lots of wah-wah keep this 1/2 hr song fresh night after night. As was usual on this tour, Jones does a short piano solo which leads into the first of 3 great leads by Page. The first very bluesy, the second similar to the live album and the third with call-and-response with Robert ("the dogs of doom").

A short speech by Robert allows Jimmy to grab the Fender and JP to get his newly acquired triple-neck............Ten Years Gone! Solid version serves as the segue into the acoustic set and the medevil ways of Battle of Evermore. Going to CA is well payed as is Black Country Woman and BYR Stomp. I really like the way Zep enter and exit the acoustic set on this tour; Ten Years has Page on electric and Jones on acoustic while BYR Stomp has Page on acoustic and Jones on electric stand-up bass. And then Jimmy does his electric rendition of White Summer/ Black Mt Side, historically an acoustic number. Of course Kashmir rises from these ashes and this time error-free (see 6/23/77). Bonham's drumming is the force behind this song as it's no surprise he gets a rare songwriting credit on this song. Trampled Underfoot is next, moved from the encore slot from the 1st leg of the tour. Shorter than the 1975 versions, I think the song is better served in the mid-set position.

A lengthy and indulgent guitar effects solo by Jimmy follows. I particularly like this as the intro to Achilles as it gives the song justice, complete with violin bow and theramin. Achilles is my fav Zep song and this one rips! No miscues and great Alembic bass work by Jonesy. Only one song could close out the show, Stairway to Heaven......."anybody remember forests?" OK. Whole Lotta Love quicky dissolves into a rare Comm Breakdown as the enore and the show is over. Somebody tell me how these guys could play 6 shows in 7 nights and maintain the energy level required for a 4 hr show. Led Zeppelin was simply the greatest band ever.

This was an unforgettable concert. I happened to get tickets at the last minute for the Saturday Night show. The acoustic set was just amazing. Thanks, gentlemen, for all the fantastic music.

What an incredible show, and Jimmy in particular is playing some of the best guitar of the tour! The entire band is in a no nonsense mood, playing the best they can. No Quarter and Ten Years Gone are beautiful and Achilles Last Stand and Stairway To Heaven are exquisite. Jimmy's solo in Trampled Underfoot is one of the best he's ever done on that song and the funky Communication Breakdown encore caps what is probably one the best of the six LA Forum shows.
