It was a evening forever etched in my mind!  Thank YOU LED ZEP for a Great Time in the 'Burgh!!!

David L's picture

My last bday in the burgh before moving to CA made unforgettable by one of my favorite

droups. Pulled my buddy out of a drum of water by the heels after doing a header and sucking

a lung full of water.Didn't stop the party! Great night, great memories.

This band took 40,000 people on a ride that lasted a lifetime.

I want with a few friends to hear Zepplin when I was a 17 year old. My memory was of a concert that sometime during the set people were rushing the stage and going over 55 gal. drums filled with water all along the first and third base lines to keep people off the field. Oviously this did not work and my friend got over the barrels with me getting caught and told to get back to my seat. I then went to the railing and jumped, trying to go over the barrels. Unfortunately I fell onto them injuring both my legs to the point I could barely walk. I did get to the front near the stage and found my friend. It was a giant party and the sound and experience was unbelieveable to say the least. Only problem was my shins were so hurt and painful I could hardly stand it. No drugs, wine or anything would take the pain away. I will never forget the pain as well as the best concert location I ever had in my 40 years of rock concert attendance. Led Zeppllin was great, only thing is I still have the scars on my shins as a rememberance. Mike Hudimac

Ate some & didn't get off too much. Remeber that when they released the pigeons or doves one fell at my feet all bloody & half dead. It had flown into one of the light towers! Bummer!

The Sleelers were ready to take over, the Pirates were strong and I was about 7--only to become a life long Zeppelin fan about 6 years later. I really wonder if they took the shoulder on the way to the arena, but it certainly looks like the area around the old airport.

Awesome clips and the 8mm film makes it look pretty much nostalgic,we hope you come back in a tour!
LED ZEPPELIN FOREVER

Marshall from Greensburg's picture

First it is good to have this film from 1973 to show Zeppelin at Three Rivers. But having seen them before and after, this show was the worst I remembered. This date was near the end of their tour and they were sounding worn out. Even a truly great band has its low points and this was one of theirs. Had good views from section 247, but people above and below started throwing food and drinks, then out came bottle rockets, and people going over the water barrels onto the field disrupted the show, so it was a bit lively. But in the 'burgh we're not too discriminating; this crowd would have been applauding if Chilly Billy came out and farted on mic. Nearly everyone around us was high, and to top it off my car got hit in the lot. Sound was never great at TRS and it wasn't this night either. Got to NYC for their set at the Garden a few days later and it was an entirely different and far better performance.
Sadly, we will never see the likes of the group's energy and creativity again. But do vote with your feet and support your favorite bands touring in your area... even though promoters take their obscene cut, many up and coming bands need our support.

I was 16, a Zeppelin fan, and what a concert! My first! I remember not wanting the night to end. And YES! I agree through the years they are still on Top! All other bands are compared to them! I am wishing I could see them reunited! What a memory and what a story that I have shared with my kids. If the opportunity comes again I will be there and so will my kids!

What a find! Can't believe I found this site and this video clip! I was 17 years old and went with my friends from Pittsburgh, our hometown. It was a fabulous show and Led Zepplin were in top form! We loved them and were thrilled! Man," been a long time, been a long, long time" since I have seen something like this! Memory Lane....and guess what, they STILL do it better then most of the crap passing for Rock and Roll or music, for that matter, today! I love Robert Plant's recent work with Band of Joy, a continueing Rock GOD And Jimmy Page is a Rock Guitar Legend! Pittsburgh loves you!

I do not care what anyone else may think. Fact is 30 plus years later ZEPPELIN is still #1 . And if anyone was to disagree, they would have to be an asshole!!!

Saw Zepplin in 73 at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. The best concert I ever saw.

I totally agree with you. Led Zeppelin is the #1 rock band of all time.Jimmy Page is the God of rock. The rock bands of the 80's 90's and today are no where as good as Led Zeppelin. In "73" I was 8 yrs old, too young to be going to concerts, but I have several older brothers and sisters that turned me on to them.I still love them, and my 20 yr old son can't get enough of them. Keep getting the LED out and ROCK on! Shawna
