Dazed and Confused

Note

Filmed performance for Supershow, which received some limited screenings in England and North America in late 1969. Other acts in the lineup included: Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Buddy Miles, Stephen Stills, Buddy Guy, Coliseum and Roland Kirk. Zeppelin's appearance is featured on the official 2003 dvd.

Jimmy Page: "We performed Dazed and Confused with what seemed to be a pretty experienced production team, as the camera angles appeared interesting at the time. They also used some dry ice, which was quite vibey, and we were just part of a number of artists that were to appear on this show - some of whom had not yet recorded and were due to arrive at the building.

There was definitely a timeslot for us to do another number, especially as the other artists hadn't arrived, and I suggested to the director that maybe it would be a good opportunity to do Communication Breakdown as a second number, but they declined the offer and said it wasn't necessary!" - jimmypage.com

Press:  COLOURTEL PULLS OFF SUPER SESSION
Colourtel (TV Productions) managed an unprecedented feat last week in bringing together jazz and blues musicians from both sides of the Atlantic to film a ‘super session’ for world-wide sale.

The line-up included drummer/singer Buddy Miles, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Page’s Led Zeppelin, Roland Kirk, Steven Stills, Eric Clapton (latterly of the Cream), drummer Jon Hiseman and the MJQ.

This was an independent production, financed privately. The producer, Tom Parkinson, said that a venture of this kind could only have been achieved by setting it up this way rather than under the aegis of a television contractor: the pressure of a tight studio schedule was avoided  by spending two days shooting at Staines Studios; decisions were made easier and more rapidly all along the line as there was not the usual hierarchy of approving committees  and the temptation was avoided to play safe and balance the show by the introduction of a musician who was popular but in a different world from other performers.

Garry Nash said that this approach not only made it possible for almost the first time to get such artists together, but, in its informality, resulted in a new co-operation between musician and film-maker which made for a better production and better entertainment.

Sales of the film, which was directed by John Crome and should reach its final state in two months’ time, are already planned for the States, Canada, Germany, South East Asia and Australia. [TVMail, March 1969]
