John Bonham's brother Mick recalled the show in his book "My Brother John":
"I watched the show perched on the stairs leading to the stage and as the performance reached its climax, Mick Hinton (John's stage assistant) came over and said that John wanted a pint of mild and wanted me to fetch it for him. When I returned from the bar, I was instructed to take it over to the side of the drum kit. I crouched down and tried to get there without being noticed... Like lightning, John grabbed my arm, pointed to a set of congas behind his kit and shouted 'play them'. Before I could reply, 'how?', the opening riff for Whole Lotta Love had kicked in. So there I was, stranded and thinking how not to look like a prat, so I started to play... As the number came to a close all I could think of was getting the hell off that stage, but John and Robert had other ideas, escorting me to the front of the stage to take a bow alongside Jimmy and John Paul... Although scared shitless, that night would remain one of the greatest memories of my life."

I remember robert saying he was struggling a bit with a cold,that evening. But it was a great show as far as i can remember,and recall getting a lift from lancaster with a mate on the floor in the back of his van. cheers robert

My first concert. I went with the lads from the band I was with at the time. Never been quiet the same since. Still got the stub. Saw them later at the Guild Hall and after a trip down the M6/1 with Polish smoked ham, crusty bread and butter, with a bottle of red, at one of the Earls Court gigs.

This was the first concert I ever went to - can you imagine that? An all-in coach trip from Lancaster & Morecambe FE College. Preston Public Hall (now demolished) was a circular building with a wooden suspended dance floor but this was seats only - boo! When the band were in full flow and almost the entire audience were banging their heads to and fro, the floor was heaving up and down, the roadies were lying on top of the huge p.a. speakers at the front of the stage to keep them there and the chandeliers were swinging to and fro in their own tribute to the phenomeneon coming from the stage! My ears rang for two days afterwards. Not many of the concerts I've been to since have matched it for pure impact! You can tell the people who were really there - they say "Eh" a lot.

I was at the gig - front row - and also remember Robert saying he had heard the Public Hall was going to be pulled down and could he have all the flags that hung from the walls when it was! Happy memories -Led Zep greatest band on earth! - Caz

In the second half of this gig, the first I'd ever seen, the entire floor of the Hall gave way by several feet where it joined the stage and scores of people disappeared under the stage itself. Health & Safety in 1971? Er, no. A brief 10 minute interlude allowed all those who could walk to reconvene on what was left of the floor and the band carried on. The worst injuries were, I'm sure, to hearing!

Still cannot believe I saw a top rock band for a meagre 60p. Attended with 2 friends and we never had experienced should a sonic level. School friends said they were offered £1 seats after helping the band's stage crew to set up the equipment. To be honest I felt the next Led Zeppelin re-arranged gig in Preston at the Guildhall in early 1973 was a memorable gig one I see as amemorable experience. Prior to the Public Hall gig I had not heard much Led Zeppelin material. This increased as time advanced.
