I was a 14 year old school girl desperate to get close to Robert Plant. We bought a bottle of Leibfraumilch for £2 to drink there. There weren't any seats there and you could get right up to the stage. Robert shared the bottle with us and we were in heaven!

Oh yeah and the music was amazing!

1st time I saw led zeppelin

I was 15 and can remember zeppelin at the royal ballrooms like yesterday. A load of us went from a local school and some of us who were too stoned never got in. The atmosphere was buzzing, everyone shaking their heads through a cannabis cloud. Probably one of the loudest concerts I have ever been to. Talk about value for money, once they came on they played and played. Can't believe the tickets were a quid then!
That was the first time and I am still a zeppelin fan 42 yrs later.

Several highlights of this show - Robert's exclamation of 'my god is this Bournemouth' when he walked out on stage implies a rather masterful misbooking at the hands of the genius Mel Bush! Apologies from Robert about his voice owing to a cold brought about a quick response - several packets of tissues were thrown onto the stage. And finally, the impromptu rendition of a few bars of 'Johnny Reggae' by Jimmy and Robert caused much amusement. Neddless to say musically the show was amazing, and the intimacy of such a tiny venue created a very special atmosphere. Most people in Bournemouth, to this day, do not believe that Led Zeppelin played at what is now the O2 Academy at the very height of their career!

I attended this concert and even had the poster to go with it. Unfortunately that got ruined as time went on. I do have one of John Bonhams sticks though. I remember it being a great concert and although it was December outside, it was absoloutly baking inside and I'm sure there was far to many people in there for it to be safe. I remember worrying about that at the time. A wonderful experience, never the less.

Yes, I was there and it was utterly amazing. Probably the best show by a major rock band that I've ever seen and during the 1970s I saw most acts. Such an odd choice of venue in retrospect, especially given that stadium-rock was around the corner and small gigs such as this soon became rarities until punk came along. Boscombe Ballroom is still there unlike it's bigger local competitor, the now demolished - and sadly missed - Bournemouth Winter Gardens.

This show equals the other shows on this short tour of the UK. Dazed And Confused is another winner, with another version of the theme from Shaft (we thus have three now), which served as a precursor to The Crunge in 1972 and the "funk" part of the piece in 1973 onwards. The Whole Lotta Love medley is also very inspired. Truckin' Little Mama was obviously thrown in by Robert and the rest of the band scramble to follow along. Half way through Rock And Roll Robert Plant is left without any musical backup and sings a few notes alone. This was due to equipment failure. A couple of great encores closing this recording.
