Notes

Led Zeppelin's first concert in two years, the first of two warm-up nights at Copenhagen's Falkoner Teatret ahead of Knebworth, got off to a troubled start. Around 2,000 fans who had bought out the house within hours waited about two hours in a smoky foyer while an emergency generator in the street tried to power the band's rig. A Danish reviewer reported a door forced and dozens of beer bottles smashed during the wait. The show went ahead with reduced equipment, and Plant apologised for the lighting.

The set ran well over two hours, previewing new songs including "Hot Dog" and closing with "Rock and Roll". The press was largely hostile, mostly about the volume and muddy sound. Svenska Dagbladet's Gunnar Salander headlined his review "Led Zeppelin åter — men attraktionskraften borta" ("Led Zeppelin back — but the magic is gone"). Still, he found that "Robert Plant sjunger bra" ("Robert Plant sings well"), Page was still a superb guitarist, and "Stairway to Heaven" and "Since I've Been Loving You" were the night's highlights. Per Mortensen ("Förmätet, patetiskt, smaklöst" — "Presumptuous, pathetic, tasteless") credited the band's musicianship and Page's "Stairway" solo. Asked by Mortensen in the hotel bar why the band had stayed away from Scandinavia so long, Plant replied: "Vi har inte spelat någonstans på två år" ("We haven't played anywhere in two years").

Promoter Arne Worsøe said Copenhagen lacked a venue that could handle such equipment. The next night went far better: Variety reported an on-time start, sound that held up, and Page's violin-bow sequence inside a cage of green lasers.

The first show of 1979 and the first ever live performances of Hot Dog and In The Evening, this show is very good. Robert is a little hoarse and seems almost shy but good nonetheless, and except for a messed up solo in Misty Mountain Hop, Page's playing is fluid, fast, and wonderful! Bonham and Jones, as usual, sound fine. A curious set list that is very refreshing and the angry solo in Achilles Last Stand is a highlight. Problems with a power generation delayed the show. Band's lightning rig was too big for venue and a generation had blowed up.

It rocked my world to see my favorite rock and roll band in a small theatre, with maybe 1500 seats or so. I sat at the upper balcony and just screamed JIMMY PAGE, JIMMY PAGE, JIMMY PAGE at the top of my lungs during the opening number.

Before the show, me and my friends drank beer with Zep fans from all over the world in the pub opposite the theatre. We were all in awe and we could hardly believe that we were actually going to see The Greatest Rock Band In The World in a theatre instead of an arena or stadium.

Yeah, it was great! The lasers during Jimmy´s Dazed and Confused-based guitar solo! The fast numbers like Celebration Day! Robert´s voice! The thundering riffs in Black Dog! Oh My God!!!

For the encore I managed to sneak out from the balcony and on to the floor. Stood there, pretty close to the band, still screaming and shouting of course, but now jumping up and down with fists in the air and sweat running down my body.

ROCK AND ROLL 29 YEARS AGO. I will never forget it.

This was my third LZ gig. They were late due to technical problems with the power. They played as loud as ever. And they were great as expected.

I will never forget the 2 shows in juli 1979, the first night, the were aprox 2 houers behind, becuce of the pa.system went down, at that time it was one of the biggst pa ever to be seen on a Danish stage,so the had to come up whit a mobil generator to help fix it. the play for abaut for 2½ hours.no suport band and only ½ light on that night. It was much better the nexst day. The play here in Copenhagen because the had to rehelse for the 2 upcomming shows in England.

I remember the press said that led Zeppelin was plyning wery to laud,Falkoner Center a venue whit ca 2500 all sited it was not the nekst week the were playning outdoor.but for me it was great, and it was my 6 and 7 concert whit Led Zeppelin all here in Copenhagen.
