What is powerful and exciting enough to pack University arena full of summer happy-rock lovers? Led Zeppelin was the answer Wednesday night.
As one of the loudest raunchiest exponents of hard rock, the English group is touring America in the most expensive musical jaunts ever, after months of rumors that there were breaking up.
Their re-appearance did not disappoint the extremely well behaved crowd of over 14,000. Backed by carnival style distorting mirrors and led by right suited lead guitarist Jimmy Page, the Zeppelin rocked around the arena stage driven by solid electricity – personal and instrumental.
There was nothing intellectual or sophisticated about the music the group played. It was just heavy, make – your - adrenalin – start – pumping rhythm mixed with familiar Zeppelin style vocal. And as the crowd’s reaction attested, there is nothing wrong with that.
The feeling one got was that the group pounded their instruments for all they were worth. And if the lead singer’s dance-like gyrations were a bit too slick and the drummer a bit too uncontrolled, the concert proved for the umpteenth time that Jimmy knows his guitar. (Albuquerque Journal- 5.24.73)

My only Zep show, but the fist of many Jimmy Page shows.
The only time I did not receive an A in a High School class, I had to travel from El Paso to 'The PIT' and had to miss my final....oh well choices had to be made.
I sat straight back from the stage and was so blown away by the band, I couldn't say anything for at least an hour afterwards.
I remember the opening 'Rock and Roll' with lights in the drum set and every beat caused a different color light to go on. What a way to begin the most exciting show. No Quarter with the fog and Whole Lotta Love with the fireballs!
I never missed a chance to see Jimmy after that. Please tour one more time, my son needs to see what you are made of, mon Zep.

Caught the Snare Stick

El Paso. 3:00 pm. I'm a Drummer in a 4pc called "Revolution". The lead guitarist knocks on my door. It's a scorching May day and he says, " Zep is playing the Pit tonight, let's go". No tickets, no money, no car. We hitch a ride, get there a couple hours later. The lines moving in. we're sitting by the door wondering how were going to get in. The line disappears behind the door. Major Bummer. All of sudden this guy appears out of nowhere (don't know if he was a scalper or just a kind soul) and says: "You guys need some tickets? I've got a couple of no-shows and you can have 'em for free!" Is that incredible or what! We're in! Fantastic show. Fast forward to the encore. Bonzo is doing a Solo (I think it was "Moby Dick"). My guitar guy and I run into a couple of Drummers we know from other bands from E.P. We're riding home with them. It's the closing number and we're standing side by side by the exit towards the back of the "Pit" to the right side of the stage to make a quick getaway and avoid the traffic. The Solo ends, Bonzo throws the sticks into the audience, my friends and I see one coming our way, we all reach up for the grab and it miraculously lands in the palm of MY HAND! Who out there is the other lucky soul that has the Cymbal Stick. If you do, please .. .. and let's make the Pair.

Led Zeppelin 05-23-1973 was a awesome night for my first date with my girlfriend and me with Led Zeppelin rocking out the arena. What a great show and something to remember forever. I still have my ticket stub as a reminder of that great night. My girlfriend and Led Zeppelin. It doesn't get better than that!!! Brandt Maass&Diana Smith
